Adjectives

Adjectives are words that describe nouns. They can tell us about the size, shape, color, material, origin, quality, quantity, or condition of a noun.

For example:

  • The big cat is black.

  • The table is made of wood.

  • The Greek restaurant is delicious.

Adjectives can be single words, phrases, or clauses.

Single-word adjectives are the most common type of adjective. They are easy to identify because they come before the noun they describe.

English adjectives typically follow a specific order when used to describe a noun

  • Opinion, Size, Shape, Color, Material, Age, Nationality, Purpose, Numerical, Qualifying
